Once a month we gather with youth in grades 7-12 for discussion, games and a service-related project. All youth are invited to join us.
Check out some of our projects below!
We are planning a Youth volunteer afternoon at Evangel Hall Mission in downtown Toronto on Sunday, April 14 from 2-5pm. While this event is geared towards youth, it's also open to families, siblings, and any students who are needing some additional community service hours! We'll be coordinating related logistics a little closer to the date, but if you already know you'll be joining us for this date, you can let us know at education@armourheights.org
Our next Youth in Action gathering is on Friday, April 26 from 7-9pm and will include some special guests! We are looking forward to spending the evening with folks from Arise Ministry and Kajeb Music. Using the poetry of a woman named Angel Power, as well as other meaningful words and poetry we gather, Kevin from Kajeb Music will brainstorm with us musically around those words to help us collaboratively compose a song. Our music will reflect some conversation we will engage in around victims and survivors of crime—something Arise is involved with daily.
**If you have some words that are meaningful for you, whether poetry or just words that are impactful, please bring them along! You are also welcome to bring along any instruments that you play.**
Arise will also be generously supplying pizza for us to enjoy!
Mark your calendars with these additional Youth in Action Dates and stay tuned for more details!
Friday, May 24, 2024: Youth In Action Evening
In March, we gathered for an intergenerational evening to make palm crosses in preparation for Palm Sunday! We also enjoyed snacks and played some games.
In February, we gathered with Lauren from Mosaic Home Care and partnered to add buttons, ribbons, beads, and other objects to pre-knitted "twiddlemuffs." These will be donated to dementia and Alzheimers patients at North York General and Sunnybrook Hospitals to help keep their hands both warm and busy as they "twiddle" with the bits and bobs added to each muff. Special thanks to Sandy who brought us lots of supplies and helped teach everyone how to sew things onto the Twiddlemuffs!
In January, we warded off the chilly, winter weather by making chocolate chip cookies to be donated to ehm's drop in centre. We also talked about homelessness in our city and ways that we can help.
December's gathering was all about being together and celebrating the holidays! We played Marshmallow toss and Christmas Scattergories before settling in to watch Home Alone with our holiday treats!
November was full of games and good conversation! We worked together to create a beautiful paper background that was showcased at our Intergenerational Worship Service. Check it out below...
This is the beautiful pulpit fall our Youth in Action crew made in November. It was part of our Intergenerational Worship Service which was based on Jesus Healing the Blind Man in the pool of Siloam (John 9: 1-41)
We were a small but mighty group in October! We played games, chatted and started putting together blankets to be given to newly baptized of the church community.
Our first Youth in Action back after the summer included time to reconnect, welcome new youth and get to know each other better. We worked together to create care packages for our new post secondary school youth!
