Join us for our study of the Book of Exodus, Wednesdays at 7:30pm, via ZOOM!
What does it mean to be free, externally but also internally? In what ways have we, are we, or can we become enslaved in ways that degrade and dehumanize us? How do we survive trauma and loss? How do we heal? How do we find new power to be and to become in a world where we can feel all-to-often powerless? What are the idols in our world today that can and often do enslave us? These are core questions we may ask of ourselves and the grand narrative we find in the book of Exodus.
Why should you participate in this study? The story of Exodus is the narrative background of the whole biblical story from Genesis to Revelation. The gospels presume knowledge of the Exodus story and the story of Jesus is presented as another version of the Exodus story. The apostle Paul makes repeated reference to Exodus because the transformation he envisions in Christ presumes the Exodus storyline – from bondage into freedom, from brokenness into healing and transformation.
What will you gain from participation in this study? You may gain personal insights into your own spiritual/psychological journey at this time of your life. You may experience new empowerment by accessing God’s presence in your life with new eyes to see and ears to hear. You will learn certain keys to reading ancient scripture in a way that makes it real for you here and now. You will get to know others of our community as you listen, share and gain new insights for living.
How may you participate? Three ways: 1) Notes will be posted every Friday before the following Wednesday session to help guide your reading of the relevant chapters ahead of each session; 2) Each session will be recorded so you can take in the discussion should you be unable to attend; 3) You can join our zoom discussion Wednesdays at 7:30pm.
Our first session will be: Wednesday, September 21, 7:30pm, and will run weekly through until December 7. Please contact Dr. Harris with any questions or interest.
