Family Ministry

Nurturing Faith at Home
Armour Heights is dedicated to helping families nurture faith at home.  We do so by providing a variety of seasonal resources throughout the Christian year, sending out emails and newsletters with practical ideas for families to try, and we provide an annual TLC Workshop, including seminars on Nurturing Faith at Home. We also continue to focus on building our family library, with resources available for children, youth and parents alike.

Library
We have a growing Family Library with resources for Children, Youth, Parents, Families & Church School Leaders.  It is located in the Scott Duncan Hall by the windows.  Feel free to sign out books, CDs, & DVDs any time!

Special Events
Fall Family Night and Spring Fling: For both of these events parents & children are invited to come together on a Saturday afternoon.  For the first half of the program adults are led in a discussion regarding an aspect of parenting while children engage in crafts, games, and other age-appropriate faith-based activities.  After the formal program all ages come together for an always yummy pot-luck supper.

Advent Potluck, Crafts & Music Night: Similar to the Fall Family Night and Spring Fling, but all ages participate in the same program.

Christmas Party: Each year after the Children’s Christmas Pageant dress rehearsal, we celebrate with our annual Christmas Party!

Christmas Carolling: Each year all ages are invited to tour around the neighbourhood singing carols.  Afterward everyone heads back to the church for hot chocolate and cookies!  Usually the last  Sunday before Christmas.

Pancake Supper: Every year on Shrove Tuesday (the day before Lent begins — usually in February) all ages are invited to come and enjoy loads of Pancakes and Sausages!  After Supper there is a short program especially geared toward children.  Always fun for all ages!

Church School Picnic: Mid-June we celebrate the year by thanking the Church School leaders and then enjoying a Church School Picnic after worship.  There are games, face   painting, lots of food, etc. All ages are welcome!

  • We are the hands and feet of Jesus…

    Portland Place
-Several times each year we celebrate and share with the people of Portland Place. Through Karaoke, BBQs, Christmas Parties, flower garden planting and more, we share in the lives of our inner city brothers and sisters.

    Evangel Hall
-Once or twice each year we have the opportunity to prepare and serve dinner at Evangel Hall, providing dinner for 80-100 people. It is a wonderful time of blessing for all involved.

    Yonge Street Mission
-In 2012 we have the opportunity to share in YSM's Saturday Breakfast program. We are looking forward to cooking breakfast and hanging out with the children who attend their Saturday ministry.

    Prayer Shawls
-Our Prayer Shawl ministry team provides prayer shawls for those who are ill, new babies, university students, confirmation participants, and more. It is a wonderful blessing for both those who create and those who receive these meaningful shawls.

    Senior's Lunch
-Each month we provide lunch and a speaker for Seniors who live in our community. We invite speakers to share insights on relevant health issues, particularly for seniors.

    Parent and Tot
-Every Monday morning (with the exception of long weekends and summer) from 9:30am-11am we provide a time of drop-in play and community for Parents and their little ones in our neighbourhood. It is a friendly, open, caring environment in which friendships are nurtured.

    Christmas
-We share in many outreach ministries during the Advent and Christmas Season including:
-Mitten Tree: Each year we collect mittens, hats, and scarves for people living in Toronto
-Christmas Angels: We help new refugee families celebrate their first Christmas in Canada with warm clothes, food, and some special gifts.
-YSM Shoeboxes: Families load up shoeboxes filled with toys for innercity children living in Toronto.
